What is it?
The Science
Restylane® is a line of dermal fillers that use hyaluronic acid to provide a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. Restylane® Refyne, Lyft, and Defyne smooth out wrinkles, lines, and folds. Restylane® Silk provides lip enhancement and volume. Restylane® Lyft adds volume and plumpness to the cheeks.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that diminishes as we age. This causes our skin to lose volume and for lines, folds, and wrinkles to appear, while our cheeks hollow and lips become thinner. By injecting hyaluronic acid back into the skin, you can restore volume, add plumpness to the cheeks, enhance the lips, and smooth out wrinkles. Each Restylane® product is made with different size particles. Smaller particles are ideal for fine lines and detailed shaping, while larger particles work best with severe wrinkles and loss of volume.
The Process
Restylane® is injected into your wrinkles, cheeks, or lips, depending on which type you use. Each injection is relatively painless and side effects can include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, lump formation, and itching at the injection site. These are typically mild in severity and resolve in less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in lips. Results can last up to 12 months in the cheeks and up to 6 months in facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, with Restylane® Lyft; 6 months with Restylane Silk; and up to 12 months in the facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines) with Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne.
