Bellafill®
What is it?
Bellafill® is a facial filler used to correct and diminish nasolabial folds (smile lines) and other folds in the face. Unlike other facial fillers and injectables that offer temporary results, the effects of Artefill® are permanent and can last up to 15 years. It is best suited for patients with deep folds or well-defined wrinkles.
The Science
Approved by the FDA in 2006, Bellafill® contains polymethylmethacrylate, which remains permanently in the skin, giving you more permanent results. In addition, Bellafill® also increases natural collagen production further eliminating lines and wrinkles. Bellafill® is injected under the wrinkles, just above the fat layer of the skin, using a tunnel or threading technique. Because of the complexity of Bellafill®, only those surgeons trained specifically in this filler can administer it.
The Process
A month before your Bellafill® procedure, you must have your skin tested for allergies. If your skin shows no adverse reactions in a month, you may schedule your procedure. The procedure itself takes approximately 15-20 minutes. The skin is cleaned and your doctor injects the filler under your wrinkles or folds. Bellafill® contains lidocaine, an anesthetic, so the procedure is not painful. There is no downtime and side effects are rare because of the pre-testing. Side effects can include mild bruising and redness, which typically subsides in a few days. Most patients require two treatments, which can be scheduled 3-6 weeks apart.
