What is
PDO Threads?
PDO threads are synthetic, biodegradable monofilament sutures that can instantly contour and lift skin. PDO threads are often used to treat issues on the face such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and smoker’s lines, but can be used anywhere on the body. People also use PDO threads to correct sagging in the knees, necks, and jowls.
The Science
PDO threads have a combination of outward-extending barbs. These attach to the skin, allowing your practitioner to pull the skin in the desired direction and lift and sculpt the shape of the treatment site. PDO threads remain in the body for up to 240 days. The suture is then converted into water and CO2 that is fully absorbed into your skin through a process called hydrolysis. This stimulates the production of new collagen, improving your skin's appearance over time.
The Process
During the procedure, your practitioner will apply alcohol and topical anesthetic to the treatment site. Then, they will use a needle or cannula to insert the threads and start the lifting and contouring process. You may feel light pressure or tugging, but the procedure is not painful.
The entire process takes 30 to 45 minutes. Results should be apparent immediately and you can resume your normal routine right away. While some patients experience minor swelling and bruising, this should subside on its own within a few days.
