Your Guide To Dysport Injections
As we age, wrinkles and fine lines begin to develop and weigh on our faces – it’s a natural part of life. Sometimes, however, this happens much sooner than we’d like. Thankfully, there are ways of controlling this process, and in many cases – actually reversing some of the more major signs of aging. Injectables like Dysport not only offer the ability to diminish wrinkles and fine lines but to prevent them from getting more pronounced. Dysport Injections in particular offer unique benefits as compared to other products.
In the sections ahead, we’ll explain what Dysport is, how it’s used to prevent premature aging, and all the ways it’s different from Botox. By the end of this article, you’ll have a firm understanding of what it has to offer and can make a well-informed decision about how it might fit into your life.
What Is Dysport?
Dysport is an injectable featuring Botulinum Type A as its active ingredient. This neurotoxin relaxes facial muscles at the site of injection by blocking the nerve signals that move them. This process leads to smoother skin, along with heavily reduced wrinkles and fine lines wherever it’s applied.
To be specific, Dysport is primarily formulated to smooth out moderate to severe lines along the forehead, as well as the glabellar lines of the face. Dysport was introduced in Europe shortly after the launch of Botox, and quickly found popularity in over 60 countries. In 2009, the FDA approved Dysport for use in the United States and the treatment has found similar success here since then.
Dysport Injections – The Process
Qualifications
In rare cases, some people can develop an allergy to Botulinum Type A. While uncommon, this condition means Dysport should not be used. If you have any known existing skin allergies, it’s best explore with your doctor before proceeding with use. It’s also recommended that you should avoid Dysport if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or currently ill. To reduce the likelihood of bruising (which rarely occurs and is typically minimal) you should avoid alcohol for at least 24-48 hours.
An ideal candidate for Dysport – according to most doctors – is between 35 and 65 with wrinkles and fine lines on the forehead or around the lips, cheeks, eyes or chin that have not responded to other skincare measures. That being said, those younger than 35 or older than 65 can benefit from Dysport as well.
The Procedure
Dysport injections are non-invasive and are relatively easy to administer. In most cases, it takes fifteen minutes or less to complete the procedure. If desired, your practitioner can apply topical anesthetic cream to the area prior to injecting Dysport.
Aftercare
After receiving Dysport injections, it is recommended that you avoid direct sunlight for at least a full day, along with any exercise or heavy physical activity. You should also avoid laying down for the next 3-4 hours after the procedure. Finally, you should refrain from touching and massaging your face to avoid the risk of uneven treatment. Results are typically seen within 5-10 days after Dysport has been injected.
How Dysport Injections Differ From Botox
Dysport and Botox share far more similarities than they do differences. Both have effectively the same satisfaction rates amongst users, both last for about the same amount of time, and both come with the same minor risks.
The biggest difference between the two products comes down to the concentration of neurotoxin. Compared to Botox, Dysport’s requires three times the number of units to achieve the same effect. However, in practice there is no difference. The effective dose is contained in the same amount of liquid volume and costs approximately the same as Botox.
Another significant difference is that Dysport spreads more easily across large surface areas under the skin. This makes it especially well-suited to treat forehead lines and frown lines. Botox, by comparison, is often better suited to treat small wrinkles like crow’s feet around the eyes.
Getting Started
Dysport injections are generally safe, fast-acting, and require very little downtime to recover. This is why they’re often referred to as “lunchtime procedures”. While their immediate effects last for about three to four months, their effectiveness at preventing more serious wrinkles is often permanent, if used as part of a regular maintenance routine.
Dysport injections can go a long way towards not only revealing, but also preserving a more youthful appearance for those who receive them.
