Non-Invasive Body Contouring

Surgical body contouring procedures such as liposuction can yield dramatic results, but are often expensive and entail lengthy recovery periods. Not everyone has the resources and time to undergo surgery.

There are many non-invasive body contouring options that can get you the results you desire without undergoing surgery. Minimally invasive treatments are often less expensive and entail little or no downtime. Many qualified plastic surgeons have as much experience with non-invasive procedures as they do surgical treatments.

Non-invasive body contouring has some limitations. Depending on your desired results, a non-invasive procedure may not be enough for you, but for many people it is actually the better option.

Below, we will go over some of the best non-invasive body contouring choices available right now.

Fat Reduction

CoolSculpting is body contouring treatment that uses extremely cold temperature to kill fat cells in targeted areas of the body. This is the only FDA approved non-surgical fat reduction treatment currently available. When successful, CoolSculpting can result in a 20 to 25% reduction in fat cells on any given area of the body.

During CoolSculpting treatments, your practitioner applies a clear gel and cooling hand-piece to the treatment area. While you will feel cold initially, this usually only lasts a few minutes. The procedure is not painful and takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. Most people need four to five treatments for optimal results.

CoolSculpting – like liposuction – is designed to permanently remove stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is not a weight loss method and will not remove large amounts of fat from the body.

Heat or RF (radio frequency) treatments – such as Inmode Evolve – use heat to damage the structure of fat cells, causing cells to die and be expelled but the body’s lymphatic system.

RF treatments can yield results similar to CoolSculpting, but may require more sessions. In addition, not all patients respond to RF energy equally – some may have better results than others.

On the plus side, Inmode Evolve Trim can also provide skin tightening on the treatment area where as CoolSculpting typically does not.

Muscle Building

Emsculpt is an option for those looking to tone their bodies as opposed to removing fat. Emscuplt uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to induce rapid muscle contractions that cause your body to quickly develop muscle.

Emsculpt can be used anywhere on the body (except the chest) you want to build muscle and is frequently used to target the buttocks and abdomen. Most patients who undergo Emsculpt notice dramatic results almost right away. The procedure gives you the sort of results that normally require months of bodybuilding within four 30 minute sessions.

As with other forms of non-invasive body contouring, Emsculpt does not entail any downtime. You may feel sore for a few days afterward, but it is the same soreness you would experience after a long workout.

Another device, Evolve Tone, also has a muscle building treatment, but uses EMS (electromagnetic stimulation) instead of HIFEM. The experience and the results are similar.

Skin Tightening

There are many devices that are designed to tighten the skin, many of which rely on RF energy. Popular devices such as Evolve Tite, BodyFX, Morpheus 8, and Profound RF to name a few, heat the skin with RF energy causing collagen to remodel and shrink.

RF technologies can be highly effective on the right person. However, some people do not respond to the energy as well as others and some of the truly non-invasive therapies can be difficult to tolerate due to the heat that must be generated to attain a result.

Most of these therapies require multiple treatments and have varying amounts of downtime depending on the specific technology used ranging from zero to several days.

Are There Limits To Non-Invasive Body Contouring?

Yes and no. That largely depends on your expectations going into the procedure. The vast majority of patients will get the results they desire with non-invasive body contouring, but some people have unrealistic expectations.

First, non-invasive body contouring is never a substitute for weight loss. Procedures are designed for people at a healthy weight looking to remove small amounts of fat or tone portions of the body. You may need to lose weight through diet and exercise prior to undergoing body contouring.

While non-invasive body contouring procedures can tone, tighten, and remove fat, they are not as adept at treating issues like sagging skin. For these issues, you may need to look into skin tightening procedures such as a tummy tuck.

If a plastic surgeon thinks you are a good candidate, non-invasive body contouring can usually get you your desired results. Most patients are happy with the final outcomes and are able to address cosmetic issues that do not respond to bodybuilding, weight loss, and exercise.

Non-Invasive Body Contouring: The Bottom Line

Non-invasive body contouring is a great option for those looking to avoid surgery and downtime. The procedures above can change your body dramatically and improve your self-image in the process. While some cosmetic issues may require surgery, many issues can be treated with non-invasive options that allow you to return to your regular life right away.
